PublishedFamily spread map
Documented people and events over time, playback, music and MP4.
The map shows the chronology of documented places for selected people. Lines do not establish an actual migration route or residence between events. The basemap shows present-day geography and requires internet access.
Create and check the data
- Choose Modules → Genealogy → Create family spread map or the Genealogy context menu action.
- Choose source Connections and people: all, an explicit selection, ancestors or descendants.
- Choose included event types and treatment of uncertain dates.
- Check place assignments. Resolve ambiguous names explicitly, enter coordinates or exclude a place.
- Review the summary and name the map.
An automatic name match does not prove a place's historical identity. Download the place-name research aid for lookup, then use Refresh in the wizard. Finish creates the map under Family spread maps as one Undo step; Cancel leaves the project unchanged. Edit selection… reopens the wizard.
Time and sources
The map includes an event's principal people, not automatically all witnesses or secondary roles. A place's count represents unique people documented in included events, not its population or living family members. Click a place to see people and events; double-click a detail to navigate to the source record.
In Animation settings, set Year from and Year to. Each boundary has its own Automatic checkbox; a manual start and automatic end can be combined. The number of dated events outside the range is shown. Map settings do not overwrite people or events.
Playback and music
Play/Pause and Stop are beside the timeline. The slider represents video time; the year is a separate value. Playback resumes at the current position; starting after the end restarts from the beginning. Timing allows events to be read and speeds through gaps, so actual duration can differ from the preferred traversal length.
The right panel has People and events and Animation settings tabs. The music list is for browsing and listening. Only Use for animation saves a track to the map; Return to animation music reselects it. Importing or downloading music alone does not change the animation's track.
Insert audio from disk… accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC or M4A up to 512 MB and creates a local copy. Project export includes the selected audio among the media. Check redistribution rights for your own tracks.
Save video
In Animation settings, use Save video…, set a title and choose HD, Full HD, QHD or 4K. Output is MP4/H.264 at 30 fps with optional music. No external ffmpeg installation is needed. Export needs the online basemap; cancellation or failure preserves an existing destination video.
The live view has a small logo. Export uses a small logo or a larger transparent watermark depending on edition. Check feature availability in your build; actual export has been verified on macOS Apple Silicon.
