User guide
PublishedImport and export
Transfer projects, genealogy, images and manuscript data.
Projects
File offers Import project… and Export project… using *.vestigia files.
- Open File.
- Choose project import or export.
- Select the input file or destination.
- Confirm and read any warnings.
Check that used media are available before transfer. Check export scope and missing sources in the dialog; attaching an external directory does not itself copy files.
Genealogy
Genealogy's Import… and Export… commands use GEDCOM. Import accepts *.ged and GEDZIP 7 (*.gdz). Export offers GEDCOM 7, GEDCOM 5.5.1 and GEDZIP 7, with multimedia options.
Multimedia
Import through a file dialog or drag and drop. The image editor exports the adjusted image and separately offers overwriting the original. Check the destination in the confirmation dialog.
Manuscripts and PAGE XML
The manuscript workspace imports/exports PAGE XML: page layout, regions, lines and transcription within supported limits. This is in development; compatibility with individual PAGE XML versions needs checking in the application.
Manuscript datasets
Modules → Manuscripts → Import → Dataset… creates a training or test dataset. Data check imports into an existing one. Input is a folder or ZIP with line images and matching UTF-8 .gt.txt files, or PAGE XML with page images. PDF and HTML cannot be reimported as datasets.
Check page/line counts and missing transcriptions before confirming. Missing images or invalid polygons stop import. Images are copied into the project's media folder and registered under Manuscripts Multimedia. Import is one Undo step.
Export offers PDF, HTML, PNG + GT and PAGE XML + PNG. Data exports create a new subfolder without overwriting earlier ones. PNG + GT contains polygon crops and literal transcriptions; PAGE 2019-07-15 contains full pages, lines, order and texts. Baselines or word boundaries are not invented. Included lines and image adjustments are used; transcriptions are not normalised.
Exchange templates and editorial sets
Export report templates as individual JSON files and import them as personal templates in the destination installation. The design library lives outside the project; finished reports are stored with it. Editorial mark sets also use JSON; import creates a new copy.
GEDCOM limitations
Family relationships derive from events and exact roles. Export includes Vestigia extensions for roles and marriages without a known wedding event. Applications ignoring these extensions may lose details. A spouse's child is not automatically the other spouse's child.
Map video and music
The family spread map exports MP4 through Save video…. Project export includes selected music among the media; unavailable audio produces an error. See Family spread map.
